#ForoCiencia CIDICS 2018 cycle is concluded
On October 8 the cycle of #ForoCiencia CIDICS 2018 concluded. ForoCiencia CIDICS 2018 is a series of forums aimed to professionals, researchers, students, and educators in the area of Health, as well as the general public interested on knowing about the experiences and opinions of the participants of every forum.
The first forum named “La comunicación social en la salud” (Social communication on health), discussed on the importance of communication on doctor – patient relationships, as well as the promotion of health. The forum was held by PhD Juan Antonio Garza Sánchez, M.P. /M.Sc. Juan Manuel Saldivar Blanco, and MD José Eleuterio González Morales. Social communication aims to influence society, and to share knowledge through communication means, emphasizing ethics. Other topics included the different services that communication can offer and how it has improved throughout history.
The second forum named “Investigación, Desarrollo Tecnológico y Transferencia de la Tecnología” (Research, Technological Development and the Transfer of Technology), was held by PhD Patricia del Carmen Zambrano, who spoke of the advancements on the UANL research areas, and mentioned the main indicators of the health area; PhD Francisco Barrera Cortinas spoke about the models of High Impact Companies Creation by researchers (CREALTII); and PhD Elizabeth Solís Pérez, who discussed the academic Institutions that seek to place results of their projects of research and development to contribute on social well-being, as well as to increase the relevance of research and development for society’s needs.
The third forum was titled “Desarrollo de Biomateriales para sustituciones óseas” (Biomaterial Development for Osseous Replacements). PhD Myriam de la Garza Ramos, PhD Facundo Almeraya Calderón, and PhD Marco Antonio Loudovic Hernández Rodríguez, discussed about the synergy of combining knowledge of biomaterial engineering, dentistry and orthopedics to achieve osseous replacements and contribute to improve life quality as demands on this sector is on the rise. It was emphasized that currently, in our country, more than 95% of implants are imported because of a lack of technology, knowledge, and investment.
The fourth forum titled “Los centros de investigación social, salud y comunitaria de la UANL” (The social, health, and communitary research centers of the UANL) was held by MD Dora Elia Cortés Hernández. An overview of the activities that every Unit of this Centers performs; as well as we the Basic, Clinic, and Applied Research on Health Sciences, the Promotion Program and Scientific Promotion and the Science Promotion Program. PhD María Luisa Martínez Sánchez also participated and explained what is the mission, vision and study plans of the Social Research Institute (IINSO). At last, PhD Rebeca Thelma Martínez Villarreal, emphasized the Program for Detection and Attention of Specific Educational Needs (DANEE), which is a program used to identified high school students of the UANL with specific educational needs where their diagnosis allows to perform an intervention program with the objective to facilitate their studies.
The fifth forum was titled “Enfoque multidisciplinario del cerebro y sus patologías” (Multidisciplinary approach of the brain and its pathologies). It was a dialogue between MD Alberto Camacho Morales, MD Fernando Góngora Rivera, MD Xóchitl Ortiz Jiménez, and MD Ingrid Estrada Bellmann, specialists on brain plasticity and neurometabolism. The purpose of the dialogue was to give recommendations about the brain and the nervous system in general, and to mention the advantages of a multidisciplinary attention center.
The sixth and last forum was titled “Terapia celular como alternativa al transplante” (Cell therapy as an alternative to transplants). Specialists were gathered to discuss of the influence of cell therapy on organ transplants. PhD Jorge Lara Arias mentioned that tissue engineering has worked as a treatment of cartilage injury. PhD Félix Vilchez Cavazos mentioned the autologous chondrocytes implant and the procurement, processing and distribution of tissue. PhD Iván Alberto Marino Martínez, chief of the Experimental Therapeutics Unit of CIDICS presented a recent research on Stem cells therapy and G-CSF on an animal model of Hepatic Fibrosis; said research was performed with different departments of the University Hospital. MD Linda Muñoz Espinosa spoke about the frequent causes for liver transplant and the numbers on a national level of performed transplants, it was highlighted that MD Linda Muñoz was a participant of the first transplant in 1991.
