Unit Description
The Autism Spectrum Disorders Unit is a bio-psycho-social interdisciplinary research structure, operating officially since October 20, 2016.
This unit’s objectives are:
- To develop interdisciplinary procedures (algorithms) that provides diagnosis and possible mechanisms of early intervention regarding Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- To develop interdisciplinary research areas with other units of this Center and other national and international Institutions to produce data and information that allow defining and analyzing various biological, psychological, and behavioral factors of public and social health related to Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- To develop publications, materials, and resources, scientific and of promotion that provide updated information about Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- To create interdisciplinary training programs to provide better service and attention to people with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- To create an information and orientation social service (via telephone, internet, etc.) of immediate response regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- To function as a Regional benchmark Center for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- To establish strategic relationships and partnerships with national and international institutions beneficial to this unit.
- Information, orientation and consulting via telephone and internet about Autism Spectrum Disorders; from families to professionals and public and private institutions.
- Personalized attention to families with a family member diagnosed with risk indicators of Autism Spectrum Disorders, or, referred cases by various Institutions, mainly of the educational sector.
- Elaboration and development of interdisciplinary procedures for early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder risk indicators.
- Information capture and evaluation algorithm implementation to establish reliable and valid Autism Spectrum Disorders diagnoses.
- Elaboration of publications, materials, and resources of promotions that provide updated information about Autism Spectrum Disorders to the community.
- To inform and participate in Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Courses, and Certificate Programs about Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Relationship programs:
Various interdisciplinary relationship and collaboration strategies have been undertaken; regarding other unit of this Center, and with researchers of other national and international Institutions, in areas of:
- Genomics
- Nutrition
- Stem cells culture
- Specific metabolites detection in urine and blood.
- Dentistry
- Psychology
- Public Health
- Education
- Family intervention
- Specific projects:
- Interinstitutional collaboration for the development of prototype tools to detect Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related syndromes, based on nucleic acid technology.
- Interinstitutional collaboration to research the usage of embryonic stem cells as a possible therapeutic strategy on Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Interinstitutional collaboration to determine opioids in urine of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder epidemiology on the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Mexico.
- Diagnostic criteria for the early detection of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Research general areas:
To produce data and information that allow defining and analyzing various biological, psychological, and behavioral factors of public and social health related to Autism Spectrum Disorders.
- Social service opportunities, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s, and PhD writing opportunities.
Currently, there are opportunities to take part in many areas of research, diagnose, statistics, and service of interest to the applicant, aligning to the particular and general Institutional procedures.
At present, our facilities have a space of approximately 12 mt² (129 ft²), equipped with the necessary elements of an office and clinic where the pertinent requirements of the unit are fulfilled.
