Unit Description

The Neuromodulation and Cerebral Plasticity Unit (UNYPC) provides cognitive and motor stimulation therapies; focused on improving the performance of processes such as attention, memory, language, and executive functions. In the area of motor restoration, work is focused on gait disruption through physical training, high intensity therapy, and repetitive training, aiming to reduce disability and improve mobility on patients that have suffered of focal cerebral injury such as an ictus or vascular cerebral event (stroke or brain hemorrhage), neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and cases of cognitive dysfunction such as Down’s syndrome and autism spectrum.

Cognitive and motor stimulation involves four different types of intervention:

  • Cognitive and motor re-education.
  • Behavior modification.
  • Family intervention.
  • Vocational and social readjustment.

Objective: To reduce cognitive, behavioral, and motor alterations, to treat these difficulties and reduce its impact on daily life for an optimal social reintegration. All of this has as main objective to improve life quality of patients.

  • Personalized Neuropsychological evaluation.
  • Neuropsychological results return.
  • Personalized Neuropsychological rehabilitation.
  • Patient’s progress monitoring after completing treatment.
  • Motor evaluation to quantify and identify patient’s needs.
  • Neuromodulation usage strategies such as electric transcranial stimulation.
  • Individual and on-site neuropsychological sessions. 2 or 3 times a week. 60 minutes in length. Usage of rehabilitation software such as NeuroUp.
  • Motor restoration sessions, 2 or 3 times a week, 40 minutes in length. On selected cases, the conducting of a special neuroimaging study may be interlinked.
  • Electrical transcranial stimulation sessions. 2 or 3 times a week. As adjuvant therapy to neuropsychological and motor restoration sessions.
  • Three equipped clinics.
  • Computer equipment with necessary software and programs.
  • Equipped re-education and physical strengthening area.
  • Electric transcranial stimulation equipment.
  • Relationship with image installations to perform functional cerebral magnetic resonance.
