Meeting: “National Observatory of Injuries”

The Observatory of Injuries from External Causes of the State of Nuevo León gathered this Friday November 16, 2018 on the CIDICS facilities to present an epidemiological approach of accidents, with public hospital statistics, with access to health care, and private of the State, and to analyze the information, generate knowledge and take decisions to form strategies to prevent accidents.

Lic. Lourdes Huerta Pérez, Head of the Health Ministry of Nuevo León and Technical Secretariat of the COEPRA (State Board for the Prevention of Accidents) started the session and MD Dora Elia Cortés Hernández, Coordinator of CIDICS mentions a few welcoming words. Later, MD Jonathan Verbitzky Maldonado, Coordinator of the Observatory of Injuries in Nuevo León presented the Observatory and presented the physicians of the social service in charge of mentioning the Metropolitan Hospital Data “Dr. Bernardo Sepúlveda”, Hospital General Zone No. 21 of the IMSS, Hospital Muguerza, Hospital Section 50 of teachers, Hospital and Clinic OCA, University Hospital “Dr. José Eleuterio González”, and the Medical Forensic Service (SEMEFO). To end, MD Jorge Alberto Chiu García, Head of the Department of Accident Prevention of the Health Ministry of Nuevo León, presented a general statistic approach and opened the session of commentaries among the assistance.

Said Observatory is part of the Sub-secretariat of prevention and control of diseases of the Health Ministry of Nuevo León which officially started in 2012 and is dedicated to create protection, prevention, and promotion actions to improve health, generate data and scientific evidence to prevent accidents.

“We are public services that are dedicated to take care of the community. We attend an accident but we also have the vision to prevent the accident”, mentioned Verbitzky Maldonado. During the intervention the most frequent causes of accidents for people to attend to hospitals were mentioned, as well as the places where accidents happen most frequently. It was emphasized that the General Hospital Zone No. 21 of the IMSS receives an important percentage of people that suffered traffic accidents. In said reunion opinions and comments were shared on the information provided. The effort among the representatives to prioritize the prevention and promotion of health was strengthened.
