The second edition of the Education Program on Nutrition and Physical Activity concludes (PROENAF).

The program is a proposal of the Public Health Research Unit. It started on May 2018 to promote a healthy lifestyle, life quality, and to carry on activities to prevent diseases. The program poses the objective of promoting healthy lifestyles on CIDICS personnel through strategies of prevention and health promotion.

With the collaboration of MD Jorge Villarreal González, UANL Medical Services Deputy Director, and MD Miguel Soto Valdez, a junction with the Medical Services of the University was settled; this, to perform checkups of the participants and thus, detect and treat diseases.

Medical and nutritional consultations were provided, as well as psychological sessions, dance therapy classes, training sessions, workshops, and psychological and nutritional discussions. MCSP Brenda Giselle Álvarez Rodríguez, MD Julio Cesar Rodriguez, and M.Sc. Guillermo Segura exhibited the program results. Acknowledgements were handed to collaborators that were present UANL Medical Services, the State Institute of Physical and Sport Culture, and some sponsorships like Fibrelas, Be – Kind, and GOBO Healthy Hotcakes.

A total of 54 people participated, CIDICS personnel, social service students, internships, volunteers, and thesis students. MCSP Brenda Giselle Álvarez Rodríguez was in charge of providing nutritional appointments. M.Sc. Guillermo Segura, Health Psychology Unit researcher was in charge of providing hypnotherapy sessions to handle nutritional habits.

During the medical checkups, in charge of MD Julio Cesar Rodríguez, improvements on the participants were reported. “…it was interesting to see how various factors improved results”, mentioned MD Rodríguez. Interventions were personalized and free of charge, also laboratory exams on behalf of the UANL Medical Services, and the accessibility to perform the activities during working hours.

At the end, acknowledgements of the first six places that achieved the set goals during the program were handed: Patricia Villarreal Quiroga, Carol Elizabeth de León Orozco, Humberto Antonio Salazar Sesatty, Juanita González, PhD Dora Julia Onofre Rodríguez, and Alejandro López Rocha.

MD Dora Elia Cortés Hernández, CIDICS Coordinator closed the event with a few words of gratitude to all participants that collaborated on the program. She emphasized the importance of promoting health on workers, as well as detecting pathologies, and improve habits in general.
