The Sixth Edition of the Women in Science Program is inaugurated
The sixth edition took place in the Center for Research and Development on Health Sciences. Different authorities from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, and the National Council of Science and Technology were present, as well as students from public high schools (UANL, CONALEP, and CECYTES).
Representing the Rector Teacher Rogelio Guillermo Garza Rivera, PhD Juan Manuel Alcocer González Secretary of Technological and Scientific Research Development, was present. He acknowledged the Director of the National College of Technical Professional Education (CONALEP), Professor Roel Guajardo Cantú. He also pointed out that Mexico needs 50% of women on Science and Engineering careers, “…Science is not a matter of gender. Talent has no geographical distribution or religion, what we need is opportunity”, stated PhD Juan Manuel.
In the venue, Deputy Director of Postgraduate and Scholarships of the National Council of Science and Technology María Dolores Sánchez Soler was present. She acknowledged and thanked all women for their effort, and thanked the students for joining the program. She mentioned that 55% of postgraduate scholars abroad were men and on national scholarships 51% are men and 49% women.
The event concluded with a photography in the façade of the building with the authorities and students present.
